It’s ridiculous that we even have to do this but if it will save the name we carried so highly for years then I’m for it

All of us have ancestors who used stone arrowheads. The mascot celibrates a way of life and a people who lived there. If our mascot was a giant Andrew Jackson head than that would be a racist mascot that should be changed.... to like an arrowhead or something else honorable about the land in which the school was built. That's why we have mascots like the Minute Men and not mascots like the Redcoats

The Rutland Raider team name currently carries no association with symbolism to offend indigenous population.
I believe the “Red” was dropped before the person who created this outcry was born.
Passing this action of change would be an insult to generations of families who are proud to have been or be involved in Rutland City School sports programs...alumni who are still in Rutland, watching their children or grandchildren carry Raider pride...
Allowing this crusade to win will be a loss, showing the current and next generation an acceptance of misdirected hostility toward an example of heritage and pride that should not be be erased by a weak example of feeble social justice, ultimately with no return to our community...
A mission to only benefit the agenda of someone who will brag the effect of their small minded influence in circles far away from our home town.
