My father's local for 35 years and mine as a young drinker until my job moved me away. A tragedy if such a pivotal part of Glossop's heritage were to be mindlessly destroyed when an alternative has been offered.

I hope they relent and let the current tenants buy the property at a reasonable price for a pub.

Lets keep this heritage building and pub. Let's make it buzz like it did in the 1980ties and 90ties. It's on my doorstep, love it.

Happy memories of cycling through Derbyshire as a teenager, stopping off at local pubs. Amazingly hospitable people, and I'll always be grateful to the county. Unfortunately I didn't get as far north as Glossop. But our history is being destroyed before our eyes, and it is time to draw the line with the Royal Oak Inn. It must be saved, because history once taken can never be returned.

The Royal Oak Inn is part of local history and culture, and as such is irreplaceable! I thought it was only America, where I live, that shows so little respect for history and tradition, or its nature. Please do better! Don't sell your soul for a quick profit today in the form of property development. Build houses elsewhere, where there are no treasured historic community buildings and institutions like this pub, or elements of nature worth protecting. There are plenty of other places to build some housing. - Christina Manetti, Lakewood, Washington, USA
