Save the Rancho Del Lago Pond – Protect Our Community’s Heritage and Habitat!
To: Rancho Del Lago Golf Course and Owner, the Mandell Family
For generations, the pond between Vista Del Lago and Wingview has been more than water. It is part of our history, our environment, and our community. In fact, this pond was first documented in 1844 as Punta de Agua (“Point of Water”) on Lt. Elliott’s historic survey map, making it a landmark that predates Rancho Del Lago itself by more than a century.
Today, this historic pond is drying up. As the water disappears, fish are dying, foul odors are already noticeable, and the risk of mosquito breeding and other environmental hazards is growing. If neglected, the pond could become a health risk and an eyesore rather than the community treasure it has always been.
This pond represents so much of who we are:
- The very name Rancho Del Lago means “Ranch of the Lake.”
- It has been a gathering place for families and neighbors for decades.
- It provides habitat for fish, birds, and other wildlife.
- It adds natural beauty, value, and character to our entire neighborhood.
- It connects us to a deeper history that dates back to the mid-1800s.
We, the undersigned, call on the Rancho Del Lago Golf Course and property owners to preserve and maintain this pond. Protecting it protects our community’s heritage, health, and quality of life.
