it is important to preserve this "learning lab" for future generations. Not all teaching occurs in a classroom... There is no substitute for experiential learning....

Keep the horse program intact, including the pasture land necessary for the program. CalPoly started life as an Arabian breeding farm and the land passed to the State with the requirement that it continue as an educational tool for agriculture.

The endowment that created the university was contingent upon, among other things, maintaining the herd of Arabian horses that were donated, along with the land, by W.K. Kellogg. Cal Poly is still one of the top Ag schools in the nation, and buiilding on one third of the few remaining acres would be tragic. I am a CP alumni, with a BS in Animal Science and a minor in CIS.

The Kellogg Arabians are what made the University. Over the years the horses have had to give up their land in the name of progress. More and more buildings are taking over and pushing the horses and cattle out. The equine and agricultural programs are Cal Poly Pomona. Stop robbing from these programs. I attended Cal Poly from 1974-1978 and trained the first endurance horse. Training started with riding Mutaba through the orchards and the pasture lanes and the hills behind the beefy unit. When I attended the 75th Reunion - all of those areas were gone. So sad to see that and now to hear the administration is going to take more away for Dorms. Why doesn't the school buy several apartment buildings in nearby Diamond Bar and convert them to student housing?
