The value of repurposing the “Old Arena” in the center of the village and its potential may be best recognized when we consider how we can make it more “culturally significant”. There are a number of good reasons that oppose tearing it down to make a parking lot. Firstly, the asset has an optimum location – it's conveniently “between the lakefront and main street”. Secondly, the vision for change must address how the “Old Arena” will support numerous “communities of interest” in Fenelon Falls and the surrounding area. Thirdly, the options for redevelopment should be based on cost effective alternatives that are scalable and embrace successful experiences and proven strategies. The best idea, which is compatible but not competitive with other sites in Fenelon Falls is the conversion to an “Open Air” structure that can host retail kiosks, cafes, unique craft shops, farmers markets plus new music and cultural events, plus initiatives that allow options to develop for a range of community groups.

I am truly overwhelmed by the momentum behind this effort to save the old arena. This vision was just a quiet hope of mine and seeing so many people agree is entirely due to your passion for our village.

Excellent idea. Present building is an eyesore and will only get worse as it detiorates. Could be used for Farmer's Market, outdoor concerts, street dances, etc. Town washrooms incorporated into site would also be good.
I grew up in Fenelon, skated in the old arena. This sounds like a great plan, and will add class to the corner.
Imagine an open air farmer's market in the heart of the village. This sounds like something unique with great potential tourism impact and economic value. If successful it might draw folks from considerable distances as happens in many European and Latin American towns. An open air ice rink in winter would also attract many people to Fenelon Falls and it would be under cover. What could be better?
we, as a community, need to utilize this resource. Make it a part of our downtown and a community hub. To distort it and make yet another parking lot adds nothing to the town.
If we had to build a roof over a 20,000 sq.ft.concrete pad it would cost between $500,000 and $1,000,000. Why not convert what we have?
The old arena holds alot of memories and should be made into something useful and community oriented.

Youth clubhouse/activities for sure, and anything that brings various age and interest groups together. We can always use more opportunities for "crossing paths" with each other, and what better location (and use of public land) than the old arena. I'm in!
