If the science proves valid, repairing/extending the existing sea wall would be the best plan of action.

The Ocean Mist and Tara's Pub are the heart of Matunuck. Those business's not only create local jobs and taxable revenew but also serve as the backdrop to memories for countless residents and paytrons. Personnaly the O'Mist is where three years ago I celebrated with friends the life of another friend who passed away kiteboarding just a few hundred yards from the O'Mist deck and where just two weeks ago I cheered as two friends danced on stage having just left their wedding.
It's important to remember during these discussions that no matter which path is taken the sea will eventually win out. One day there will be an storm that will come, it will cut through the end of Matunuck Beach road (new wall or old wall) and it will forever every change a coastal community so cherished within South County, by the State of Rhode Island and beyond.
The real question is how do those at the helm of this seawall decision want the Matunuck community meet its unavoidable fate. Do they permit the community to continue a self-funded fight against the sea thus savign millions of dollars for other DOT project (has anyone else noticed the Route 1 bridge over Pond St. is currently shored up with wooden timbers) or do they decide that the state should step in with a new wall to give the community maybe a few more years of life even with it's heart (Tara's and the O'Mist) ripped out.
