The North Atlantic Right Whale is critically endangered with only 400 or less remaining!
This whale is rapidly heading to extinction. In 2020, the Right Whale was downgraded on the ICUN’s Red List to “CRITICALLY ENDANGERED” … only one step away from “Extinct”. It is the only large whale ever to be classified as “Critically Endangered.” Even whaling did not drive a whale species to extinction. But the Right Whale could be extinct in our lifetime!
Right Whales are in trouble mainly due to being hit by ships and boats, and entanglements in fishing gear. Their migration route along the East Coast from the Florida-Georgia border to Canada, passes right through extremely busy shipping lanes and fishing operations in the USA and Canada.
Only 100 breeding females now exist. The extreme stresses they endure have had a very negative effect on the birth rate.
We are hereby petitioning the USA and Canada to restrict vessel operations, speed and fixed gear fishing activities in areas of known right whale habitat. We are also asking that the U.S. Congress pass the SAVE Right Whales Act.

it’s crazy that whales are being extinct in our life time when during the period of whaling they weren’t going extinct
Please save these magnificent animals!! Change dangerous practices with shipping routes and fishing equipment!!
The solutions of 1. Speed limits when known whales are in vicinity. 2. “Quick release” on longlines etc. make sense. I worked on a lobster boat up to 30 miles east of nantucket. These seem like viable rules. The ocean is the wild west. Almost free for all. They need certain rules to conserve what we have. -mike gault
I hate that these whales are even close to extinction. We are doing so many things wrong.
Humanity MUST put an end to its abuse and slaughter of Nature, including these majestic symbols of our relationship thereto.

No windmills off Nantucket shores. Right Whales Frequent these waters as well as a variety of others, including humpbacks and minke Whales. Nantucket’s shores and surrounding waters Support A Diverse Bird Migration Zone. Has anyone bothered to investigate this environmentally diverse area! Don’t disrupt the delicate balance again just as we are experiencing a strong come back of several marine and bird species. This area needs to be protected it is a natural treasure and should be a environmental sanctuary.
