I Reanne Covington am a black women and do not find the Newton Brave mascot racist. I attended Newton High School and was proud and still am to be a Brave. I refuse to call myself anything else taking away the Brave mascot will be taking away every student’s identity who ever walked through those halls. At the Newton protest for BLM it was run by all Newton Braves and half the people that attended were Newton Braves. We are proud to be Newton Braves don’t take that away from us!

This is ridiculous. I grew up with that symbol and mascot from a little guy playing football (Newton lil Braves) to my senior year of High school. And I was a Brave on the wrestling mat for even longer. My family grew up as Braves all the way back to my great grand parents. Once a Brave always a Brave!!!

My brother, sister and myself went to that school. My oldest daughter graduated and my youngest daughter is a junior. Newton Braves we are and will always be. I am tired of this racist bs. Leave the newton braves as is.

In no way is this racist. Please this has been the Newton Braves logo for ever. There is no reason to change it now. It would be such a shame to loose this. It’s not racist or degrading at all. Please save the Braves.
