Please do not remove. My children are part Native American and this is insulting that this is even being considered. Keep the logo, the mascot and keep Newton Braves!!!!!

I graduated from NHS. To be known as a Newton Brave is an honor. Why should it suddenly become something dirty? Small minds should not have the right t to destroy our history

Being a brave is about pride and honor and courage. It’s about leading the way and believing in who you are and what you stand for. It’s about being part of something bigger than you...your tribe...if you will. In Newton, we always say “love my village”. And it’s takes a village to raise our children and survive. Don’t take that away from us!

This is not racist in fact when a student in 1978 painted the mural of the indian there was not one ounce of racist thought everyone needs to stop reacting to a few who are trying to stir up issues that do not belong it was chosen to reflect every person who needs to be brave when faced with obstacles and challenges in life. In sports every time you go on the field as an athlete you are faced with challeneges and obstacles. This current board should not cave under a few but stand tall to the majority who have passed through the halls of Newton Highschool for many years long before these few who chose to make something positive into a negative

At some point the ridiculousness of what is being called racist needs to stop. The mascot the Brave has connotations that honor the Native American history of the Newton area and that they are brave warrior students. Please don’t erase the beloved mascot over a “Karen” who is clearly misinformed and intentionally trying to erase history.

We need to keep this school mascot in memory of the indigenous indians that it honors! They already have little to no recognition as a people. This will just erase them even more. Class of 83

I feel like our mascot is not racist. Its what we feel best describes us. What's next having a black valedictorian at graduation is going to make us racist? Look I'm sorry I know racism is a thing and I know that in some cases it is really bad. But personally i feel like we are going backwards. I feel like if we keep going like this we will be a nation devided by race. I am a former student of newton. I graduated from that school and i am proud of our Braves. If you go back into your ancestry I'm sure about 99% of us are decents of Native Americans (indians). Having one for our mascot should unite us.

I find the logo and name in no way offensive. This part of the state has a long tradition of naming Towns, lakes etc. after Native American tribes etc.
