In 1960-1963 I wrestled, ran track, played golf, and even tried football. I was in several plays, and chorus. I have served on the Newton pride Foundation for 20 + years. Always proud to be a Newton Brave.

As an alumni and former NHS coach, I've always been proud to be a BRAVE. While I believe it is critical to preserve and teach Native American culture and history, I do not believe it is racist or offensive to name a school for a Native American leader, especially in Newton, NJ. It should be an honor. I don't understand how naming schools after the Natives of the land is offensive, as long as they are portrayed appropriately. If there are any Native Americans who disagree and can provide a other position, I would welcome it and respect it. It just does not seem to be the case here. Perhaps I am wrong, but I am proud to be a Brave. In fact, our family all received some NHS memorabilia for Christmas this year as a fundraiser for the schools. Be BRAVE!

This isn’t just not recently racist. This has always been culturally inappropriate and for hundreds of years native Americans have been mocked, and have suffered. They are not mascots, they are people .

Both of my grandmothers on my fathers side were 100% Indian. I went to Newton High School and am proud to be a Brave. I never once in the 4 years i attended High School did i feel the Large Indian Head on the front of our school or the many on the inside were Racist to me. I am honor that i went to school at The Home Of the Brave. PLEASE do not change this great Symbol!!

Ridiculous! Most native Americans do let care about this; why do you? Political agenda will be the death of your party!

It's ridiculous that Newton High School has to change their mascot all because of one letter and they've had their mascot for years!! It was never offensive then but now all of a sudden it is because racism came back into the picture stronger? Ridiculous..

As a graduate of Newton High i find it appalling that they would consider changing our Mascot. Our mascot is not racist.
Lean the name alone
Please don’t change, we are The Braves!
Leave the symbol of such a Warrior alone.
Beyond words!!
