I am a graduate of Napa High School Class of 1960. Over the years I have been watching the debate on whether the Indian mascot should be removed as the iconic symbol of the school. I had the honor to attend classes with Native American Indians; and to my recollection they never had any issues with the Indian mascot or Indian name. My wife is part Cherokee and laughs at this whole mess. Her words are, we buried enough Indians in the old west, let your school mascot remain and show the world how proud the Napa alums are of the school’s American Indian heritage. So even if you elect to remove the Indian, I will still proudly wear my blue and gold clothing with the iconic Napa Indian logo. “Remember you cannot alter history or our feelings”.
Please note, I now reside in Montrose, Colorado, where the Uncompahgre River flows next to one of the most visited Indian museums in Colorado, and our local high school mascot is the Indian. Many other schools in Colorado and Arizona have mascots with Indian, Warriors, Red Skins of other names associated with American Indian Heritage as well. I stand by our Napa High School Indian mascot and I am proud of Napa High School’s Native American history, and I think you, the board, should too.

My son was a third generation Napa High Indian. I was an Indian, and my parents both were. My mom taught me that you DO NOT walk on the Indian. Let's not start now.

I am half Native American, and was so proud to attend Napa High School, with the knowledge that the mascot was a (general) symbol of my heritage.
I was, and still am, proud to say I was a Napa "Indian".

The Indian mascot is something that is thought off a proud heritage. Napa high embraces that pride and does in no why consider the Indian mascot as anything less than a symbol of proud heritage and high character. I have never heard any complaints and I'm a alumni of Napa High class of 83! Long live Indian nation!
