Listen to the past and present students and their parents. Listen to the Wappo Tribe. Their desire to maintain the Napa High Indians logo is one of pride. It won't cost the N.V.U.S.D. and taxpayers a dime.

I was born and raised in Napa.
The issue here is about "Napa Indians" and our traditions. There are lots of logos around the USA that are not nice. We need to look closely at the issue here, at Napa High School, and the traditions of respect that appeal to those who actually live here right now.
I am so proud to know that the land I was born on and the land near Napa Creek, where I was raised, was formerly inhabited by Indians. We searched and found lots of obsidian arrowheads and understood that we were now living where they had lived before us. The idea that if I studied hard I would become a successful Redwood Jr. High “Warrior”, a Napa High “Indian” and then a Napa College “Chief” was exciting to me and represented a connection to the land and its early inhabitants. The American Indians came to the Western Hemisphere about 20,000 years ago and made a difference that I am proud of. Oh my goodness, removal of that “Indian” logo would be sad beyond belief especially since we have already lost the others for no reasonable reason.
My wife and daughter are descendants of American Indians and are very proud to know the names and history from 6 different great—grandmothers. Their mitochondrial DNA is a haplotype (D1) that originated here in the western hemisphere.

I graduated from Napa High in 1964 and during my time there I never viewed our indian mascot as anything at all disparaging to the American indian. Rather we saw it as a recognition of the many wonderful traits possessed by those people and to which we would aspire. Why would we want to change that? Do we no longer agree with those aspirations?

The Indian mascot is named out of respect for the hearty braves of yesteryear. It should always be the honored mascot for Napa High.

A note to those trying to insult our 120-year tradition and respective HONORABLE mascot, the Napa High School Indian. The "Indian" represents Godly values of loyalty, sacrifice, work ethic, commitment, dedication, and love of others above self. That is why the "Indian" has withstood time and has presented value to over 200,000 graduates and a wonderful community, something opponents know NOTHING of, indeed. You ignorant, despicable FOOLS taking your liberal, Satan infested agenda from town to town across America have confronted the wrong group. We will take you all the way to the United States Supreme Court. Meanwhile, go back under the rocks you came from, indeed. Game on!

We offend no one. We show respect always. Why are these radicals trying to eradicate Indian figures all over this nation. This is not a good thing. They are a minority and we have harmed no one. Save the Indian symbol.
