My son who is a sophomore and has been with Mr Gorman since 6th grade has said he will quit band if Mrs Howard becomes a director. He truly loves every minute of band This will be devastating to him!

These 2 directors have worked so hard for the band students and school to get to the level they are at. Twelve years straight gold medal rankings in ISSMA Festival Marching Band competition, every 2 yrs being invited to a college bowl game to perform.DO NOT let the traditions and legacy they have created go unnoticed. If these 2 incredible, devoted men leave there will be no Riley Band. The bands kids come to Riley because of these men, they teach these kids more than just band and music, they teach them discipline, dedication, love for their passion of the band. Some of these kids come to band scared and unsure of themselves, as the year progresses these kids become confident, secure and very well rounded young adults who love their band family, band and community. They love performing for their community and showing everyone what they have learned and why they are the"Pride of the South Side"," Pride of South Bend" the Marching Wild Cat Band!!! I know this due to one of those students whom is my daughter, who is August is heading off to college as a Music Education Major, and if you ask her she wants to come back to South Bend to be an Assistant Band Director with Mr. Gorman. So not only does this decision affect current students, future students, and the school itself and the south side community.

Mrs Howard was my daughter's orchestra teacher at Jackson and again her freshman year at Riley. Not impressed with her at all. She is kind hearted but does not have the stamina for a band director. Mr Gorman and Mr Balog are the best band directors in South Bend and have made the Riley band what it is today. Please do not let them leave the Riley band it would be a travesty!!!!!!

If Howard is made a band director, I will be forwarding my 12 page report over the repulsive, racist, inappropriate behavior of Riley administration to all of the local news agencies, along with the photos, video, and audio proof to support it. Bayingana convinced me not to do it last year, but it is going to happen without any doubt whatsoever if Howard becomes a band director.

I understand the students and current directors are not in agreement. As I have trusted these leaders for years with my kids best interest, I can only defer to their viewpoints on what would or would not be in the best I interest of the students and the program. I do not give support of this decision.

I had Mrs. Howard as an orchestra teacher. She is a kind hearted woman, but she definitely does not have the experience needed to do the job as band director. She should not be awarded a job because of tenure.
