The arts should not suffer. They are intregal part of education and life. They teach discipline and imagination. These programs are vital to our youth's life experiences. As a former band member myself, the help me build interpersonal relationship and experience to communicate and work as with others as a team. This would be big disgrace to our programs in this area.

Linda Howard would kill the band department. I had her as my orchestra teacher freshman & sophomore years...she is horrible. I gave up playing the violin which I had played since 4th grade and taught myself to play the oboe so I could be in band after marching season was over with. Please don't let her take over the band dept....it will suffer greatly.

Mr. Balog and Mr. Gorman have a wonderful relationship with the kids and they are why the love band. I had a son that had Linda Howard for orchestra and she is the reason that he did not stay with it. She was not engaging and they watched movies sometimes instead of learning their instemts. She did motivate them or try to get to know them. Why would you try to fix something that is not broken?

I know all three teachers involved. My 5 children have done either band or orchestra with at least one of them. Mr Gorman is an excellent teacher and I hold him in high regard. I wish I could say the same for Mrs Howard but I can't. She caused my children to want to quit.

There is no need for another band director beside those two. Attempts for a third has only brought a teacher who stole from band funds and ms howard has no congrol when it comes to kids.

As a Riley alumni and former member of the marching Wildcats, I sign the petition for them to not add this lady to the staff. Mr.Balog and Mr.Gorman is well informed and are great teachers for the music program at Riley. They don't need someone else coming in. If they quit, because of the change that will hurt the integrity of the band and what it has been all these years. Music is big tradition at Riley I think band was always my favorite class at school. Losing those two will most likely ruin our band. There both do such a great job the their wishes should be respected.

Howard doesn't have a fraction of the charisma or teaching ability that both Mr. Balog and Mr. Gorman have. It amazes me that she was even allowed to teach in the first place. It's sad enough they've added Rider to the staff, this would be the end of an era. Don't fix what's not broken.

I am a former orchestra student and Mrs. Howard's management of the orchestra was dismal. During contest season she blatantly violated rules about the number of groups students could participate in and her idea of "rehearsal" is playing along loudly on her keyboard. The disdain for Mrs. Howard on the part of Balog and Gorman is not at all misplaced, and they should be taken seriously while she should not.

This cannot happen!!! Mr Balog taught me how to play clarinet and without he and Mr Gorman my band career would have ended early. Mrs Howard is unfit to teach and would cause the band to fall into ruin.

There are few teachers who can inspire a passion for a subject.Mr.Gorman and Mr.Balog are two teachers that inspire passion for music. They build confidence in their students and I feel blessed to have had them teach my child and inspire her.I do not know Linda Howard so I cannot comment on her abilities.I will say that to lose these 2 excellent teachers to a poor decision, and to put the excellence in education of our children in question over this appointment is wrong.

Linda Howard taught orchestra when I attended Riley in the late 90s. She was a repulsive person and a horrendous "teacher". She knew nothing about orchestra instruments, was incapable of actually teaching us anything, was crude and inappropriate, and hardly even conducted the orchestra to sound decent. Putting her in any class is a disservice to the students.

I am a huge supporter of Mr. Gorman. I know him well through being in marching band with his daughter at Penn. He is a wonderful man with great musical knowledge and experience. He is a key piece for the Riley Band to thrive and succeed thus he needs to be restored to his position.
