we actually did it and the beavers are safe because the county officially called off the removal plans. im seriously so happy that they listened and that we managed to protect this local habitat together. lets keep an eye on the pond just to make sure they stay undisturbed.

Today, the county has begun draining this pond and has plans to remove and kill these beavers within the week. The Virginia state policy is lethal removal unless there is a permit to relocate them.

There is NO reason why these beavers have to die. There has got to be a better way of handling this. As a life long vegetarian and animal lover...I am appalled to think they would be killed for no reason. I am a Mantua resident and have enjoyed walking the path and looking for them!
In this day and age, with our advances in wildlife management tools and technology, killing animals is NOT a management strategy. Shame on you Fairfax County!!!!
Mantua's wildlife is integral to our way of life. The beavers can be relocated instead of being euthanized.
Please either no not disturb these beavers, or relocate them to the creek in Mantua. Do not kill these beavers in our community.
These critters pose no harm and little nuisance. Leave em be. It is not like that retention pond has any other real value... and we end up paying for this removal with our taxes.

I live in Mantua because of the nature. Leave the beavers alone. If the pond needs to be drained a bit then do so by allowing the beavers their freedom. If I can’t live with the fox, deer and beaver in this neighborhood I’ll sell this house and take my tax dollars elsewhere.
