As a long time resident of this community I care deeply about preserving the safety of these beautiful manatees. We must do all we can to save them.

Please remove the lock to help our environment. Manatees are being killed in the Lock and the original purpose of the lock is no longer valid due to housing now, decades later, being on the city sewer system.

It is long overdue to be removed, it is now a hazard to navigate when the tide is going strongly in either direction it’s only a matter of time before someone gets hurt or worse. Environmentally there is no reason for it, everyone this loch services is now on sewer not septic, the Matlacha folks who oppose it’s removal should worry about getting their community off of septic systems if they want to improve their water quality.

Since Ian, the lock has been opened, the water quality has improved, the depth of water has been stable, and no manatees have been killed….there is no need for the lock! Now that we know better, let’s DO Better!!!
