I agree that the lock has become a hazard to both boaters and wildlife and should be removed.

The lock is as unnecessary as it is dangerous now. Let’s remove the antique relic and modernize our canal system.

If the lock has been open for 8 months, no manatees have died, the water quality has improved, as well as the water level (a miracle with the lack of the usual rainfall), I sign this petition to leave the lock open.

As soon as possible, please. We have wasted too much time, and finances already. Common sense needs to prevail.

We have lived here many years and were hoping it would have come out long ago.

The group filing frivolous lawsuits (And costing Cape Coral taxpayers millions) supporting keeping the lock have been spreading untruths and gross misinformation about the impact the lock removal will have like lowered water levels and the mangrove's dying, just to name two. The facts are that water free flows 24/7 through several breaches along the South Spreader Waterway’s Western bank to Matlacha Pass with daily tidal flow and this happens with, or without the boat lock! The NW Spreader Waterway Lock/lift was removed years ago and the mangroves are not dying and the water level has not dropped at all as a result. The body of water called the Gulf of Mexico determines this water level!

Please remove the lock. Every time we to through the narrow passage of the lock, I cringe when I see a dolphin or a manatee in there and I always pray that they move out of the way.
