Save the Mahogany Trees at the Honokaʻa County Park

The community should be able to discuss with professionals, alternatives to the problem rather than desecrate healthy mature tree. If the trees are cut down, then likely people won’t attend events or functions because there’ will be no shade. I would hope that’s not what the County is attempting to do by having the trees cut down and nobody come to the park.

Although I'm not an expert regarding the safety issues and the cost of repairs to the parking lot at the Honokaa Sports Complex, I fully support the efforts of those trying to save these trees that provide beauty, shade, and memories of many traditions. And I urge our officials to consider the reasons these trees deserve their utmost attention, because once they are gone, most likely it be difficult to replace them and the charm they've brought to this area.

There trees are important shade trees in the park. Better to exclude a few parking spaces than to remove the trees.

Please contact a certified arborist and weigh benefits vs downsides before considering removal of healthy trees. There are ways to come up with a preservation plan before doing construction around trees. I am a ISA certified arborist.

Even though the trees are infected, there are always ways to help them, and they have ways to cure themselves as well. Please keep removal as the last option.

So happy people are being proactive. They did the same thing at king kam Park but we werent so lucky. Its Horrible, ugly, and HOT without the trees! Save those Honokaa Mahoganies!

Enough is enough. Stop cutting down trees.
