Rowing is a fantastic sport that teaches so much more than physical strength, but mental strength and time management.

Closing the programme is an understandable reaction however rowing can have a fantastic affect children's behaviour in the classroom and out. Many children improve their results, gain leadership qualities and get steered away from negative influences as a direct result of rowing. Give the programme a chance to fund raise. It can be done. Good luck to all involved.

As a rower who learnt at a club whilst at state school I feel strongly that the London oratory should continue to provide a rowing program.

I know this sort of decision is hard to make- have you considered fund raising to support the boat club?

It would seem to be very short-sighted for Governors to turn down an offer by parents to float the boat for another year.
It is so important within the RC community for those not in 'hierarchy' to take on responsibilities and be encouraged, not dismissed. So this decision has wider implications.
Offering what Private schools offer seems vital - to show that state education can work, can be good and should be supported in various ways.
I look forward to hearing the schools response.

British Rowing has done much good work to try and rid rowing of its (untrue) image as an elitist sport. Shutting down one of the few state school rowing programmes will not help and will deprive the youngsters of access to a sport with life-long benefits.

I think I was amongst the early members of LOSBC in the late 90s and it gave me great enjoyment whilst at the school. It would be a bitter shame to see the school terminate its funding of the club and deprive others of the opportunity I had.

I have seen the benefits of the rowing programme at LOS. Huge loss to cut it after years of collective work. Needs protecting!

As a rower that learned at a state school, and as an ex school governor myself, I'd encourage the school to do whatever it can to keep the boat club going

I played a part in developing the physical and mental traits that nurtured ordinary state school boys into highly academic, athletic and respectful men.

Rowing is one of the best sports yet it is not very popular. Keep this club so it can help attract new towers to this beautiful sport

As a parent of a son who benefitted greatly from rowing on the Thames with his (special) school, I feel that experiences like rowing offer an important breadth to the education of our children.

Please help to keep rowing for all rather than just for privately educated kids. Thanks.

I consider rowing to be an excellent character building and team activity which should receive full encouragement and not be cut from the curriculum. Rather, it should be showcased as a state school offering such a programme.
