Rowing allows those who don't have great ball skills to excel in another sporting discipline. Please don't close this opportunity for the boys and girls at LOS.

Having been a volunteer coach at both school and university level, the Governors really need to revisit this. Rowing gives so much to young people. Discipline, work ethic and lifelong friendships. Don't throw a unique feature of your school away.

I believe that this extremely important.
This is one of the few state schools in the UK that offers rowing as part of its curriculum, and it has achieved a great deal in the few years since appointing its Head of Rowing in 2009, including for example an entry in this year’s PE Cup at Henley. The LOSBC Support Group, a registered charity, has been formed to help the Boat Club to become self-sufficient.

As a former pupil at the school, I feel it important that such opportunities should continue to be offered to the current pupils.

An intense sport that demands high standards. It challenges students and brings out the best in them. It is important that this Club survives.

Rowing has been one of the constants in my life - it helped me develop both physically & mentally, has given me great exercise and many excellent friends. Others deserve a similar break.

I really want to be able to have a choice for my child coming into the Oratory. It would be a shame to lose the opportunity to contribute to a hugely successful Olympic sport within a State school environment. Do we just want this to be in the domain of private schools? So much discipline and team spirit and personal growth demonstrated by those I know who participate!

I started rowing a Borlase Grammar School, and it transformed my life, with me going on to be a winning Cambridge Blue, GB International. Olympic Coach, and Chairman of Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust, see www.cambridgesportlakes.org.uk. Rowing is a strong teacher of mental discipline, motivation, strength and fitness, and physical and mental endurance. Your school would be doing itself great harm by closing the Boat Club.

These young men have worked so hard to achieve incredible results. They have also self-funded all the money to keep their rowing teams going for the entire next year.
If the reason for cutting the rowing team is due to education cuts, surely that issue has been completely resolved at least for the next year. And then if they continue to raise their own funds in continuing the years, then surely there is no reason to cut the rowing team.
Rowing is a sport that requires a considerable amount of dedication. And these young men at the Oratory have then raised the money on top of all the training that is required of them. These boys are extraordinary! Furthermore, they have achieved incredible results in the face of other teams who have access to state-of-the-art facilities and far greater funding.
These boys are only asking to carry on what they have worked so hard for, achieved amazing results, and are able to fund themselves for the next academic year.

Rowing has so much to offer kids from all schools, probably more than any other sport, so closing this programme would be a huge tragedy.

The small number of State schools which offer rowing is pitiful. To reduce their number by a quarter would be sacrilege. The Governors have a DUTY to rethink such foolishness.
