This is an issue which will decide whether we apply to the London oratory or not as my daughter is a keen rower.

There us not enough sport at school already. Back in the 80s I was lucky enough to row at the inner London's Education Authority boathouse. All kids, great mix of people and lights of kids from state schools. Two of my mates rowed internationally and one is an Olympic gold medallist. These are the worst sort of cuts...its a false economy

I called into the LOS to offer any support I could, I live in Spain but have some funding contacts in UK. I am a rowing coach, semi-retired. Unfortunately I called by LOS when the Parsons Green incident had occurred, and at the school reception was met with an unwelcome approach. I handed over a letter to the rowing master whom I do not know, it was intended to be helpful re. junior winning performances at regattas. I am considering contacting the acting head about what I experienced at reception, but do not wish to cause any difficulties for the Boat Club. I have been assisting St Leonard's Sch BC in Durham, another state school deserving support in difficult financial times. I wish LOSBC every success. Ray Ward

Rowing is a great sport giving young people structure, discipline as well as exercise. Please don't take this opportunity away.

Offering rowing in state schools is an important message about opportunities for all. Discontinuing it at the oratory further illustrates the gulf in opportunity according to state/ private and should be resisted

We hosted the school for some time when Ali Boileau was there and it was good to see the young men benefiting from their experience

They will likely learn more that is useful to their lives by taking part in this sport than anything else at school.

This is a fantastic addition to the cirriculum and a terrible shame that this cannot continue, particularly as sufficient funds have been independently raised to cover the first year

Essential to retain this fantastic opportunity for young people to practice a team sport that teaches endurance, skill and discipline - and gives you life long friendships.

As a rower since my own school days I'm keen that as many young people as possible have the opportunity to try rowing at an early age. At the very least allow the programme to continue with the funds raised.
