In March spent 3 weeks travelling the South Island and only heard 2 kea wheras 20-30 years ago they were everywhere. The only change was that they have had tons of 1080 dropped on them every year, the bush is pretty much the same so I can only conclude that 1080 has decimated their numbers, and if that is so then of course it will have had the same effect on other bush birds as well. Time to sop this poisoning madness.

Kea were plentiful before New Zealand started its 1080 poisoning programme. Now it is very rare to see one. I fear it is almost too late but we must do all we can to stop this number one reason for their decline - 1080 poison - if these cheeky, hugely intelligent, iconic birds are to survive at all !

They are too precious to New Zealand to be experimented on.

Seriously, I thought New Zealand was smarter than this. There has to be someone on the chemical company payroll in the "conservation" department behind this.

My dog was poisoned by 1080 dropped in a no drop zone behind mynresidential home, the signage and notification was not sufficient. It was aweful. Don't wish on anyone else's pet or animal.

Why are DoC doing this .. .. are they making sure ours and their grandchildren get to only see these and others by book & history lesson. I thought you were here to protect our wildlife. Your actions are a sham, a shame and an embarrassment to our nation - especially our wildlife. So, so sad!!!

New Zealand is such a beautiful country. It is criminal that the government are poisoning it in the name of conservation. Who is making the profit from this evil action?
