Unless the Township can answer to Eminent Domain and 75 years of being a "grandfathered piece of history, perhaps the Township can find better issues to challenge. How about stopping the polluting of Indian Lake from the 23 storm drains that pour directly into the lake, fix the railroad crossing at E. UV and 26th and pave Highview and other roads around Indian Lake that are in disrepair with hundreds of potholes. Leave the Indian Lake Boathouse alone and tackle much more important issues.

As I was sworn in as the Brady Township Supervisor yesterday for the 4th time, I was reminded of my oath of office that requires that I uphold the laws of the U.S., the state of Michigan and Brady Charter Township. Even though I have purposely refrained from commenting regarding this topic, I felt it was time to weigh in as the current post directly references Brady Township Officials. It is important to know the FACTS regarding the issue rather than get caught up in an emotional frenzy that erroneously accuses the Township of being unsympathetic to this situation. So, here are the facts:
1. This building was labeled a “Dangerous Building” (defined by ordinance) as it is in extreme state of disrepair. Nobody (including the current owner) disputes that fact.
2. The law (that has been in effect for decades) requires that either the building be demolished or be restored to current Michigan State Building Codes AND (this is important) be placed on a legal location on the owner’s property. A portion of the building currently sits over the property line onto the adjacent property as well as it sits on the shoreline. Current law requires a building be situated on the owner’s property meeting all setback requirements. Current law also restricts the existence of accessory buildings (sheds, pole barns, etc…) along the shoreline of any body of water in Brady Township.
3. An independent judge (Hearing Officer that has no ties to Brady Township in any way) heard arguments from both the owner’s attorney and the Township’s attorney regarding the possible remedies for this structure.
4. The Independent Hearing Officer determined that the law is clear, and the actions described in #2 (above) need to be followed.
5. As of today, there has been no involvement of a Brady Charter Township Elected Official (Board of Trustees) in this matter.
As far as the location aspect of the law, the only way to legally keep this shed (after being restored to code) in its cu

The paint job has been around for 48 years but that boathouse has been around a heck of a lot longer. It has been part of the waterfront and landscape for over half a century and the reconstruction brings it back to its former glory. The Decision should be reversed
