I definitely believe that IB program is a wonderful opportunity for students and should not be cut.

I was apart of the IB Film class my junior year but the program was cut this year due to rumored budget cuts. I couldn't handle one class of this tremendous program being cut, and if the entire IB program was cut, I wouldn't even be able to comprehend it

Unfortunately, I am not an IB student, but I have many friends that are. IB students learn content that is much higher than what I learn in AP. I think that students who wish to expand their knowledge should be able to, and the school should keep the program for those students for their passion's sake.

I am not an IB student myself, but many of my friends are in the program and they are achieving a higher level of learning I cannot reach in my AP classes. While the AP program is right for me, it is not for many other students. It is hard to believe that the school district would consider cutting a program that motivates students to work at a level that improves their school experience and future.

Don't touch the IB program! Let it be and let students with a passion to learn take advantage of these resources!

Parent of IB Diploma Candidate: I can't say enough good things about the IB Program. My daughter has had an incredible opportunity to learn critical thinking skills and to be immersed in a global, forward-thinking style of learning. Her teachers are the very best in SMSD and she has had the opportunity to be surrounded by like-minded students for the past two years. She is fully prepared for studying at her chosen university and abroad and I truly believe that being in the IB Diploma Program has opened doors for her both academically and culturally. She is currently in the running for a prestigious scholarship... This is in a large part due to the rigorous study, the global thinking aspect and community service involvement of the IB program she has participated in. In this highly competitive college market, the IB program has given her an edge and has helped shape who she is today... A community-minded, global thinker.

IB was my daughters favorite thing about high school. The conversational approach and the challenging content were fantastic for her not only as an academic but as a person. My son will be at northwest in 2 years and she is insistent he is in the program based on all of her positive experiences.

While I'm not an IB student, I know several people who are. IB allows students to take a higher level to their learning and offers a variety to the AP program. Higher level learning should not be something that is even considered in budget cuts. Why limit a student's potential?

When my family and I moved to Kansas almost five years ago, when I was an 8th grader, we moved there specifically for IB. IB has pushed my critical thinking beyond anything I could have imagined. Questions in my math, biology, english, spanish, music, and history, and theory of knowledge classes have pushed me not to simply memorize information, but to apply it to the world and to tie it all together. IB has given me a wordly view and has taught me to become an independent thinker. This will serve me for the rest of my life. I want people to have that experience in the future.

As the younger brother of an IB student, I have always looked up to and valued IB. Seeing in action first hand has really pushed me to want to join IB. If the IB program is cut from SMSD I will be forced to leave the district.

Senior IB Diploma Candidate: The IB Program has been extremely important to me. I can soundly state that I would not be in the SMSD (paying to go to school within the district) if it were not for the IB Program. I truly believe that the education that caters to my level of intellect and the level of intellect of my peers can only be found in the IB classes. I cannot think of one regular level, honors or AP class that has asked me to be a very analytical thinker who asses the implications of different viewpoints internationally as well as at home. I feel as though I have been healthily challenged and encouraged to reach new levels of worldly knowledge that cannot be achieved by learning to answer multiple choice questions. I also feel as though IB has prepared me for the level of challenge I will be asked to reach when I enter the university level of academia. I think it would be an extremely unwise decision for the SMSD to cut the IB program and would encourage many highly intelligent students to leave the district and look for other institutions that provide the IB program.

Senior IB Diploma Candidate: this program developed my ability to think critically and internationally. It is the most valuable facet of my high school education as it taught me the interrelationships between subject areas and increased my appreciation for knowledge. It needs to be saved.

Senior Certificate Candidate: The IB program is one that significantly impacts the lives of many students everyday. IB provides new ways of thinking and constant learning in a way that cannot be replaced by AP or CollegeNow.

IB is the best challenge for students who want to be prepared going into college and excel. Even though it is difficult in rigor, students, enrolled in the program, need IB in order to stay engaged in difficult subjects and challenge ourselves to reach our personal academic goals.- Senior IB Diploma Candidate

Senior Diploma Candidate: The IB program has changed my life in so many ways. I don't think I would have ever gotten this much out of one program. No program teaches me ways of in depth thinking like IB. No program here besides IB will have given me the knowledge of how to compose music. I will always look back on this program with a smile and know that I have been so much better off.
