This program means a lot to so many kids and taking it away means you're taking away options that students dint have already.

IB was the single most defining thing about my high school experience not only in terms of the quality and rigor of the education or the opportunities I had to intellectually engage with my peers, teachers and the material but also for the relationships that I fostered through common goals and curiosity. IB gave me the tools and inspiration to pursue big goals outside of my circle and even my country for which I am extremely grateful.

This is totally absurd to me... Limiting their education is not the right thing to do.

I am currently in IB classes and I will be receiving my certificate next year. As a student lucky enough to experience the more freely functioning classes for more in depth information about subjects I actually care about. If SMSD chooses to cut this program, it will save them money. However, they will be losing the students that come to SMSD for the program, as well as the interest of younger underclassmen in aiming for a higher education that pays off in the end.

I live in this district, but teach IB History in another district. These cuts should not happen.

We sent our child to smsd specifically for the ib program and were very pleased with it. Critical and global thinking are definitely an asset to the community.

IB has provided a completeness to my education where AP can't.

As an area Realtor I can tell you I have moved people to Kansas City and particularly in SMSD because of the IB program. It is an integral part of the educational offering in our city. PLEASE do not end this very important program. So many more of our kids should be taking it.

I believe that it has many advantages over the AP program; however, they are unrecognized by many Universities within the United States. The IB program, as I am sure many of you can attest, helped to mold us into the students we are today. It helped students explore academic fields, form critical thinking habits and discover their potential as future college students.

I don't see why the IB program should be cut. It gives opportunity for those who wish to gain more knowledge the chance to gain even more! Save IB!

When you have outstanding students in the school district who need to differentiate themselves and further their learning exponentially in order to be attractive to highly selective colleges, why in the world would you compromise their academic potential by cutting such a distinctive and renowned program??!!!! Save IB!!!!!

It is disheartening to hear that SMSD would consider cutting a program that truly fosters a curiosity and love for learning in students. The IB program not only prepared me for college, but allowed me to excel in ways which my peers have not. Students are burdened by classes which focus too heavily on facts and test scores, and less on growing as a scholar and as a human. SMSD would be foolish to cut a program which provides a much needed alternative.

We arrived in SMNW because of IB. Our first daugher was accepted in McGill canada, because of IB. Our second daughter is a senior IB and we were hopping that our 2 other kids would go in IB ! Please don't give up IB.

IB is the only reason I went to Shawnee Mission East. The program was incredibly important to my education as it allowed me to pursue my love of French and Spanish as well as international studies. Because of the IB program, I was able to receive a full year of college credit. I will be graduating this spring after spending just three years in college -- 7 months of which I spent studying abroad... All because of IB. Don't punish bright students because the state of Kansas is broke. Take your budget cuts elsewhere.
