This is an outrage. Our founding fathers were heavily inspired by ancient Hellas. That we no longer teach the Classics in today's classrooms is tragic. As Americans, we've lost a pertinent piece of Western Civilization's history. Now, a Hellenic Studies Center in Rhode Island is under threat of not being completed? What a shame! If we wish to rehabilitate our present so that the future of our country (USA) is one of an informed and educated citizenry, it's best to remember what inspired our American founders and celebrate the extraordinary gift of both knowledge paired with wisdom that stems from the Hellenic culture. One of Rhode Island's favorite sons would certainly be appalled if he were alive today: H.P. Lovecraft. Regardless of the man's "flaws" (by today's social standards) he recognized and honored the great contribution and tremendous impact that the Hellenic culture had (and continues to have) on Western civilization. This center must be completed. We owe it to our future generation.
