Our museums are recognised at the National level as among the finest in the country. Some are National Award winners and some have unique displays that even the British Museum have no examples of. To restrict access to any of our museums from the people of the city and the thousands of visitors who come here to see our award winning museums is wrong. I would encourage all citizens and visitors alike to sign the petition and let the council know they are wrong to close access to our heritage.
Hull City has an amazing heritage - and any community in any part of our nation deserves the resource and cultural value of its Museums - so please keep the Hands on History Museum open for all.

the council ddo a great job of Hulls museums and librarys, they are an asset. They have a wonderful property portfolio which celebrates Hulls rich past, a lot of it is their public responsibility to keep part of the city for the people of Hull to enjoy and learn from, and not sell to property developers.

I hope that this decision is reversed - closing the museum will do nothing but damage Hull's well-earned City of Culture win. Best of luck from Dundee! :)

Museums are a vital part of every community and its economy. Closing this museum will not save money in the long run, and I encourage the city council to review its data and recrunch the numbers. The cost to the community of keeping this museum open is far less than the cost to the community of losing it. Consider, if you will the financial detriment to employees, the loss of an educational center in the UK where there are already issues with properly educating children, and the cost to deaccession valuable tools and objects, or to accommodate long term storage of these items, especially those that cannot be deaccessioned or loaned to another institution. These costs far outweigh any imagined savings that would come from closing the Hands on History Museum.

I mentioned in my comments for my signature, hoping that the City Council will see, and will share my thoughts here for the group. I do not believe that the City Council has fully weighed the costs associated with keeping this museum open versus closing it. The City Council should recrunch the numbers and look at alternatives for saving money. The cost to shut down the museum will be significant and can be a long term expense. First, the detriment to the staff will be felt immediately as they will no longer have employment. Second, the detriment to the educational system in Hull and surrounding areas will be felt quickly as yet another educational institution is shut down in a place where there is already trouble in this system, and this in turn will have a negative impact on the economy. Additionally, in order to close down a museum, arrangements must be made for the building, for the tools, the exhibits, and for the objects inside. This may take months, and thousands of pounds to achieve. Some objects may not be able to be deaccessioned or loaned out, and this means that the City Council will be required to find care and proper storage for these objects, which will be exceedingly expensive outside of the museum environment. The damage to the economy, even a small City economy, is significant when the decision is made to close down a museum. It is critical to consider all of these aspects of the economic importance of a museum and its hold on a community. The City is mandated to care for the objects and history contained in this museum, and it would not only be morally abhorrent, but likely also illegal for the City Council to simply abandon the museum and its objects. A full budgetary analysis should be conducted to ensure that this is the only way for the Council to do what needs to be done. Additionally, the Council should provide a detailed analysis of all of the options that were considered when the decision was made that "something had to go" and they should

This goes completely against the grain of the 'City of Culture' ethos. There's no denying that the council are feeling a budgetary squeeze, so how about appealing to local businesses who will inevitably benefit from Hull2017?

You're getting more funding through being the city of culture yet you're closing valuable centres of history and culture within your own city...in place of what 'superlambananas' or something just as crass?
