On August 23rd, 2013, Keith S. Downey, Chairman of the Republican Party of Minnesota, demanded that Republican VOLUNTEERS at the Minnesota State Fair booth turn their "David Gerson for Congress" shirts inside-out so no one could see the name of this REPUBLICAN candidate.

This is totally out of line with the principles of Liberty as conveyed in the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution and the MN GOP Constitution--and yet another example of party leadership SHUTTING OUT the GRASSROOTS. Meanwhile incumbent cronies like Congressman John Kline habitually vote unconstitutionally and against our MN GOP platform.

David Gerson is a Republican seeking the party endorsement in Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District. Yet John Kline, who holds the seat and is not publicly seeking the endorsement, is allowed to display his name. Candidates for Governor who are NOT ENDORSED AND DO NOT HOLD OFFICE - just like David Gerson - are allowed to display their names at the party booth as well.

This behavior BETRAYS our history. In 1976 Former President RONALD REAGAN challenged and almost defeated sitting President Gerald Ford at the Republican National Convention in the noble effort of returning the party and our nation to the spirit of its more enlightened founding.

THEREFORE, we the undersigned, demand an apology from Chairman Downey to the volunteers at the fair as well as all of the delegates and members of the Republican Party of Minnesota who have loyally expended their resources in the effort to advance the purpose of the Minnesota Republican Party.
