Final supporters
Students of the Hertie School continue to raise their concern for the lack of courses focused on the Global South as well as on other development issues. From Spring 2020 onward, the course on "Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood" taught by Dr. Gregor Walter-Drop, despite great relevance due to its focus on providing students with practical skills, seems to be reduced from being offered in each semester, to only once a year, causing many students to miss out on this valuable course.
This particular issue becomes even more problematic due to the fact that his course has been widely acclaimed and appreciated by students throughout the years and is always in great demand.
The course list was published right before Hertie enters into holidays, therefore, it is of great urgency that we as students are able to petition for this course to continue for this cohort and the next ones to come. The Hertie School Student Representation (HSR) also supports this initiative.

The feedback from students regarding the necessity of this course has been both consistent and illuminating. These shared experiences highlight a clear gap in our curriculum that extends far beyond a single semester. We are currently compiling these accounts to present a comprehensive case to the administration.

The groundswell of interest in this course confirms that many of us are seeking a more comprehensive perspective on governance within our curriculum. This momentum suggests that our academic focus should reflect a broader range of global experiences and expertise.

As an alumna from Lebanon, I do support this claim and feel the school should be providing broader governance perspectives. Not only for the sake of students coming from limited statehood countries but also for the benefit of future EU leaders who might play a big part in shaping their development agendas, and should be doing so tools in hand.
The Hertie School is justifiably proud both of its international student body and the fact that many alumni work in international organisations (including many that focus on developing countries). This needs to be backed up by a course offering that gives adequate attention to policy issues from non-EU countries.
If this course is removed, Hertie will prove yet again that its discourse is not interested in any conversation or critical discussion that is intersectional. It's time to reform the curriculum, not to regress.
Great course and one of the very few courses that focuses on governance outside OECD countries. Furthermore, it explores non-government and non-market governance institutions that are not discussed in other courses.
This was by far my favorite course I took while at the Hertie. When I took it, there was a wait list because demand was so high. This is the most valuable course I took at Hertie, and to reduce its offerings would be a disservice to students.
Excellent course with an excellent professor.
Great course taught by an even greater professor. Hertie students shouldn’t miss out on one of the integral classes provided by the school. Lots of rich insights and debates to be had!

One of the very few courses at Hertie that critically looks at governance & development policy outside the global-north Euro-centric paradigms & applied critical thinking & analysis on real world cases. If Hertie wants to remain/be internationally relevant it shouldn't cut this course.
