There is definitely a better way to handle this situation. Please figure it out and spare the geese! They don't deserve to die for no reason!

Well it's definitely NOT 'euthanasia'. Canada geese are very family oriented birds and being shot over 30 days as they watch mates and family and flock mates being shot before they are finally shot is hardly 'euthanasia' and if it was any other animal it would be ANIMAL CRUELTY. The birds also think humans are decent creatures they can live around and this is just the worst betrayal, callously shooting them in what they think of as their home. Beyond disgusting and I have no idea why they got a permit for this animal cruelty.
"Using the word “euthanasia” in one form or ANOTHER IS A WAY TO SANITIZE what is really happening. LET'S GET THE WORDS STRAIGHT and then perhaps people who are passive about the unnecessary killing of urban wildlife, because we don't take easy measures to coexist, will take action to stop this horrific practice."

Marion, thank you for commenting and clarifying the use of euthanasia. We have reworded the petition so the word is not misused.

a wholesale slaughter is what it is, and the worst part is, as Marion stated, the fact that they are family oriented, and they would watch their mates and young die, or the other way around. There are other ways to control the population than this proposed bloodbath. .

This HOA needs to be FIRED - if these people can't humanely manage a reasonable number of geese, God only knows how they manage people. Oh wait, they do a lousy job of that too, since they seemed to plan this entire slaughter in secret until they were outed.
So far if sounds as if they have lied about the number of geese on the pond (claiming 75-100 when people who live there say it is not even close to that high a number), and I want to know what they have done to address this so-called problem that it is so out of control now? Had they done some simple processes, they would not have this situation now. And to refuse humane alternatives in favor of shooting nesting birds is utterly outrageous.
It's a POND. Where there is water, you are going to have WATERFOWL. It's not a goose problem - it's a PEOPLE problem, specifically, the people on that BOD of the HOA.
It's really not even a matter of doing goose maintenance - what that entire community needs is an education process to learn how to co-exist with nature. There are non-lethal things that they can do to limit and stabilize populations and other things they should not do.
There is definitely a better way to handle this situation. Please figure it out and spare the geese! They don't deserve to die for no reason!
