Save the FTS Dance Room!

I support this petition wholeheartedly.

If they had adequate rehearsal space, funding, and respect, perhaps they would win a competition. Beyond that point, some things are just inherently good, such as the arts.

..."getting all these diseases." Was an unintentional red herring. The point is: Cumberland County School system spent $26,000.00 on a room intended for a new (and less than equal to ALL other CCS's) dance room. That room is being usured by a sports team that already has, arguably, HUGE financial support from the booster club. Beyond the fact that arts DO matter, Where is FISCAL responsibility? Where is the equality for all students: athletic, artistic, and academic?

Dance is just as important as other sports

You're more likely to get Mrsa and herpes by going into the Rainbow Room or even drinking out of someone else's cup. If you're so worried about "getting all these diseases" then maybe you should put on fully covering clothes and dance in actually dance shoes, e.g. technique shoes, instead of dancing barefooted.

When the dance team wins some competitions, we can talk about signing the petition.

I sexually identify as a dance class and honestly I'd really appreciate it if you guys would stop objectifying trans-classes like me. It's offensive and I'd really like you to use the so-called "dance room" proper pronouns (ge, ga, and gu). It'd help promote nonviolence toward trans-classes such as myself. Y'all should give me this room so i can turn it into a record studio so I can teach up and coming rappers at fts. I believe that if fts produces more rappers like myself, it will bring revenue and respect to the school. I heard a dude named Taha has some fire beats. I would like to teach a prodigy like him. When are people going to wake up and realize that the arts do for students what athletics do for students: teach teamwork, social skills, commitment, confidence. In addition the arts promote creativity, self expression, and touch lives through performance and demonstration. That last sentence probably could also apply to athletics. Schools need to serve ALL students through ALL outlets in which they can be reached. No one activity is more important than the other. Maybe if schools applied this line of reasoning, arts programs would flourish and prove as financially viable as athletics. And maybe students would respect the work of their classmates in activities other than their own or those like their own.

This total disrespect for the arts program is appalling. These kinds of stunts pulled by athletic programs are discouraging in themselves, but the lack of action from the administration is even more so. Constant pumping of funds and resources into athletics stifles growing arts programs. As a future educator, I am shocked at the disrespect not only to the arts, but also academics, as the dance room is a CLASSROOM. No extra-curricular team should ever be allowed by the administration of a SCHOOL to take over an educational space. Not only has the wrestling team blatantly ignored rules and policies by vandalizing dance room equipment and introducing germs and diseases into the space, the school and administration has turned a blind eye. This athletics-centric mentality will only get worse if administrations everywhere continue to appease sports teams. This is in no way different from a soccer team removing all of the desks from a math classroom and practicing there, yet that is far less likely to happen. And why? Because the arts, proven to be positive for development, cathartic, and healing, are considered just "fun." Dance is extraordinarily challenging physically and mentally. That is what it is designed to do, push the boundaries of what you think you can do until you can do it and stretch the imagination, all to create art with yourself. This insolence cannot be tolerated any more.

Wish FTS took their arts as seriously as their sports. Goodluck Rosie!

Everyone has their own passion, the thing that drives them. Everyone has that one thing in life for which they live and no one, absolutely no one, should have that taken away from them, regardless of who benefits. I understand that the wrestling team may be happy that they are expanding but even expansion has its moral limits. Who are you to take away someone else's happiness, someone else's heart, someone else's passion, just so that your own desires can be fulfilled? If you ask me, that's selfish, insensitive, and hypocritical. I'm pretty sure that the wrestling team, had they their own room, wouldn't have liked it if the dancers took over their practice space, so why take over their rehearsal space? This school needs to reevaluate themselves. And if you ask me, being a dancer is far more incredible than wrestling.

The arts are just as important as sports are! Save the dance program!
