In one of the few cities in the world that has an embarrassment of fine bookstores, this is one of the finest. Well-stocked, well-organized, roomy, comfortable -- a pleasant place to be, as well as to find book treasures and bargains.

This has become one of the best bookstores in the area and the prices are aimed at average budgets, which is a GOOD thing!!

Used bookstores are vanishing everywhere. The Friends store has created its own vital niche. If the lease is a problem, then negotiate a hiatus, and resume when the pandemic is over.

As bookstores in the Bay Area are few and far in between, the Readers' Bookstore at Fort Mason is not only deprive the readers of treasure but also push the city further into a cultural vacuum.

Closing the bookstore will end an important way of life for so many of us in San Francisco as both volunteers and customers. I know that the bookstore has always made a lot of money for the SF Library, and cannot understand the rationale for removing it. Please reconsider this terrible move.

In this ever more digitized world, the physical reality of holding a book in one's hands, opening it and reading down the page in search of whatever truths or inspiring words can be conveyed or shared remains an irreplaceable human activity. And bookstores, the repositories of such truths, such knowledge, must never be cavalierly relinquished to oblivion. The Reader's Bookstore belongs to this city, this community, the people who dearly covet the unique experience of shopping and browsing for books and music and inspiration in such a warm and welcoming environment. To close this wonderful bookstore is to close the heart and soul of Fort Mason. We've lost too much already, not this, not this.

The Bookstore at Fort Mason is one of the treasures of San Francisco. Closing it would be akin to getting rid of the cable cars.

I am saddened to hear that the fort mason bookstore is scheduled to be permanently closed. I have been a frequent customer for 20 years and have found it a fantastic place to browse for old titles. Fort Mason has long been a treasured place in San Francisco for it's support for non profits and the arts. A genuine piece of San Francisco culture will be forever mourned and missed. Please keep the store open!
