Save The Exit

Seattle is one of the few remaining cities in the U.S. with a rich variety of cinematic experiences; lots of 'art houses' rather than one and a butt-load of stale multiplexes. The Harvard Exit would be a deep loss to our film culture.

This theater is a fundamental part of Capitol Hill and has been a cultural resource we will all be much the poorer for having lost it. Independent theater has a viable and relevant future both economically and socially. It is every bit as important as the symphony, opera and ballet halls for the cultural health of our fair city.

There are few large, community gathering spaces remaining on Capitol Hill. We don't need another bar - we need to keep a movie theatre in this neighborhood!

While the Harvard Exit could benefit from some renovation, please consider maintaining its best purpose and integrity. it has serves the community well for so long that it deserves to do so. Even though the theater itself was built into the previous historic space, please consider bringing these historic elements forward in any renovations. Thanks.

Please, please, please. If you need volunteers to help restore it and keep it alive, I will be the first on the line!

Please please please keep the theater in some capacity! Change is inevitable, but this loss is so painful--more than any other I can think of in at least 10 years. It's one of the loveliest things on the hill; without it a huge chunk of the neighborhood's soul will be gone. We cherish it and need it!

Redevelopment can still incorporate the theater space and yet be profitable to the developer--please work with the community to achieve this goal!

I would gladly volunteer my time to help save the downstairs theater, which would be a draw to the restaurant and bar. (Think Third Place Books and Elliott Bay Bookstore and their resident restaurants. Could there be a model there?
