This is a critical sale for the city of Grass Valley, this is the area of town that connects Downtown Grass Valley to the Cedar ridge area. If sold this land will most definitely go to big developers and corporations. No! to the Empire Mine sale!!!

I volunteered at the mine in 1977, when I first moved to Nevada County. It gave me a very strong love of the history of this marvelous community! It would be very sad to lose that!

It is very rare to have a municipal park - part wilderness, part cultural landmark so close to its community. (Google "Portland, Oregon Forest Park" to see just one example of what a park means to its community.) Empire Mine State Historic Park faces an existential risk of becoming just another place that "we used to go to." It would be an immeasurable loss in calculation to this community, and we could never "go back to the way it was." If you ever strolled, ran, biked, rode a horse, pushed a child in a stroller, or listened for a moment to the clear, quiet peacefulness that comes from visiting Empire State Mine Historic Park or any large park, then you probably know the essence of this place. If you have not visited, trust me, it is all this and more. Meanwhile, if you have not checked it out lately, with all its reconnecting trails and places to explore, try going into the far-reaches of The Park sometime, It is an awe-inspiring place! There are parking areas that are no fee (Penn Gate or Indian Ridge Trail are two examples) and allow the visitor to experience the park outside the exhibit areas for free. In all likelihood, this is what we would lose first. It is a vastly interconnected trail system straddling both sides of Highway 174 and is much larger than the exhibit areas themselves. Please take the time to forward the link below to all the people in your circle and encourage them to do the same. -Craig Hoddy, Nevada County Gold http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/save-the-empire-mine-state-historic-park

My Wife and I both graduated Union Hill at Empire Mine and we were just married there this last September. Born and raised here in Grass Valley. It is apart of our history.

The 1st line on the official state park website states: "Empire Mine State Historic Park is the site of one of the oldest, largest, deepest, longest and richest gold mines in California." I don't understand how California could consider selling such a critically historic gold mine site. Gold made California a state, and this mine was a large part of that.

The park is a wonderful place rich in history and beauty. It is where children and adults alike can really feel like they've stepped back in time and immerse themselves in the story of our great state. Personally, I went to field trips theee as a kid, had my 8th grade graduation ceremony, my senior pictures as well as my wedding pictures there! Now my kids get to walk the trails and enjoy it as well! Please keep this wonderful place, do not take away those experiences from the community!
DO NOT SELL!
DON'T CLOSE IT
It made more money than 97% of the state.
