The future of the direct rail service from Beckenham Junction to Blackfriars is uncertain. Currently the service is not running due to COVID. We asked Southeastern when it would be reinstated and they told us:

"In the case of Beckenham Junction to Blackfriars, we will not be reinstating direct services in the short-term while usage of these services is very low and the usage of the line by other services will be returning to higher levels. This is to ensure the resilience of our ramped-up service and minimise the risk of any impacts on reliability as services are increased once more.

However, this is not to say the direct services will not be returning in the longer term. We are keeping this situation under constant review, owing to the very fluid circumstances we are facing, and it is our intention to return to a full timetable as soon as possible. "

In 2014 we campaigned successfully to retain a service from Beckenham Junction to Blackfriars. When Thameslink ceased operating from Beckenham Junction, our campaign and lobbying secured the service to Blackfriars with Southeastern. We need to campaign again to make sure Southeastern keeps this much needed direct service.

If you want this service to be reinstated sign this petition. We need to let Southeastern know how important this service is to local people before they make a decision about its future.

Sign this petition to save the direct rail service to Blackfriars from Beckenham Junction, Kent House, Penge East, Sydenham Hill, West Dulwich.

Thank you

When I've used the Blackfriars train it fills up at BKJunction and it's standing room only at Penge. An essential service for workers & to connect to stations serving north of London. Was even better when it went directly to St Pancras.

Essential work travel. Changing mid route adds additional time and there is not always capacity to join at HH so waiting for a less busy train means I am late for work. My childcare does not allow me to start my journey at an earlier time

The numbers pre-covid are resuming travel. The population of London continues to steadily increase, not decrease. We need more transport, not less. South London already suffers with less infrastructure and investment. It is vital to keep such lines in place.

The direct service from Beckenham Junction to Blackfriars is a crucial link for so many people working in the City. Changing at Herne Hill is not really a viable option at peak times - Thameslink trains arrive packed and often impossible to board.

We bought our home in March 2020, partly due to the direct access to Blackfriars - losing it would extend ours, and many others, commutes hugely, making everyone spend more time trapped in a metal box of germs when we should be doing all we can to encourage the opposite!

This is an invaluable busy service for hundreds of local commuters and school children. It’s removal will cause disruption and potentially an increase in pollution levels of people have to drive to other stations in order to be able to reach Blackfriars
