To the following: University of New Hampshire; President's Office, Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, and the University of New Hampshire Academic Affairs Committee of the Faculty Senate

We, the below signed, condemn the unadvised and ill informed actions of the Academic Affairs Committee of the University of New Hampshire Faculty Senate. Their decision to recommend removing the Confucius Institute from our campus is a direct attack on academic freedom and furthers the racist idea that Chinese citizens are working to undermine the America. Furthermore, this action taken by the Academic Affairs Committee is an insult to those who partake in Chinese studies and are of Chinese dissent, including the international exchange students attending the University of New Hampshire.

We ask that the University of New Hampshire President's Office and the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures work together and renew the contract between the University and the Confucius Institute.
