Built in 1931, the treasured Coliseum cinema is facing complete closure. The Coliseum is an historic Art Deco building and part of the fabric and rich cultural heritage of Porthmadog and the surrounding area. It is also an important part of the local community. The loyal and spirited people of the area united in 1983 to save the cinema. Now it's the turn of a new generation to do the same!
We, the undersigned, believe that Porthmadog’s Coliseum is a vital part of the local community and that it deserves to be restored to its former glory and should be preserved for future generations to come.
Wedi ei adeiladu yn 1931, mae perygl bod ein sinema y Coliseum yn cau am byth. Mae'r Coliseum yn adeilad celfyddydol hanesyddol ac mae'n rhan o wneuthuriad a threftadaeth ddiwylliannol Porthmadog a'r ardal. Mae hefyd yn ran bwysig o'r gymuned leol. Daeth ffyddloniaid grymus eu hysbryd ynghyd yn 1983 i achub y sinema. Dyma gyfle'r genhedlaeth newydd i wneud yr un fath!
Rydyn ni, isod, yn credu bod Coliseum Porthmadog yn ran hanfodol o'r gymuned leol ac ei fod yn haeddu cael ei adnewyddu i'w gyn-ogoniant a'i gadw ar gyfer cenedlaethau i ddod.

Reaching one hundred signatures reminds me that this building holds a deep place in the memories of many people. It is heartening to see this initial group recognize the history that our community stands to lose.

Seeing the count approach one hundred signatures reveals how deeply this building is woven into the identity of our town. We need a final push today to cross this threshold so we can present a unified position to the local planning committee.

We have lost the Town Hall and the clock. It used to be a beautiful town at one time.Loosing the Coliseum would be the final straw ! If we have to loose the interior, please preserve the front ! The town has lost it,s character. This has to stop.
this building must be preserved in some way, it would be wonderfull to see it open its doors again as it is greatly missed in porthmadog, i for one will be fighting tooth and nail to prevent the needless destruction of such a fine and majestic building and landmark.
I bought a share (No.0227) back in January 1985 and hoped many thousand of visitors would want to save such a beautiful old cinema!I wish you well in being able to keep/restore the Old Lady. Kind regards Martin
We have often holidayed in the area and have cherished memories of the Coliseum. Please retain the building. Surely it could be put to some community use if not as a cinema.
Be a shame to see yet another art deco building reduced to rubble.... I hope every effort can be made to save it even if it entails an alternative use.....
The Coliseum is a lovely example of an early Art Deco cinema. It deserves to be granted listed status, and saved for future generations.
Develop NOT demolish!
Achub ein Colisëwm! Save our Coliseum!
a lovely art-deco 1930s cinema, that deserves a future, for generations to be entertained there-in. I wish you well
