Save The Co-op building, London Rd Brighton
PETITION to save the Co-Op Building on London Road, Brighton and stop this inappropriate planning application.
This is the planning application by Watkin Jones & Co-op Group, by their agent Genesis Town Planning.
Details for application number: BH2012/02675
address: (Former Co-op Department Store) 94-103 London Road and 6-11 and 12 Baker Street Brighton
description: Partial demolition of former Co-Operative building allowing for the retention of the existing façade. Erection of a new building ranging from 3 to 6 storeys providing 351 units of student accommodation (sui generis) and 3no retail units (A1) at ground floor level, incorporating new access routes, 3no new disabled parking spaces, 225 cycle spaces and other associated works.
We understand that the Planning Council Meeting is 5 November 2012
With demolition (if successful) being scheduled for January 2013
Any objection MUST be lodged with the council by 3 October 2012
This planning application seems to be being rushed through and local residents have only just been made aware of the proposal. The council planning website does not make it very clear what to do to lodge a view or object. We have found out the closing date for lodging an objection or making your voice heard is 3 October 2012.
From the local feeling we have heard, this is not what most people who live here want and it is certainly not being put out freely for peoples' views and opinions.
