They actually backed down and the sale is officially off the table which feels completely surreal after all the stress of the last few months. I honestly keep looking at my phone waiting for a catch but it looks like The Centre is finally safe from being turned into a …

We the citizens of Vancouver request the city to reexamine the impending deal that would have Westside Church buy The Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts. Not only will this result in the loss to our city of a major piece of cultural infrastructure but also the loss of jobs of many people who have been employed there over the years. There are interested parties who over the years have tried to buy Centre and each time been rejected. They too would like to see The Centre remain in its current usage. We urge council to direct staff to see how this negotiation can be reviewed. Vancouver is losing too many of its cultural venues and we expect our city to stand up on this. As a church The Centre would no longer pay property taxes. Surrounding businesses would no longer benefit from the spin off on event nights. Please do what you can to protect this asset. Yours truly, The Citizens of Vancouver

I really thought this might just float into the ether but the sheer volume of people who actually care about these stages is startling. It makes me think about those old nights at the theater and honestly I cannot imagine this city without that particular skyline glow so thank you for sticking with me while I figure out the next step with the council.

This is such a loss for our arts scene. We arent just talking about a building we are talking about jobs and culture. Keep it public!

Think about the local businesses around the area. They rely on the traffic from the events. This is gonna hurt the whole neighborhood.

This city is becoming a concrete box with no soul. Leave the theatre alone.

VANCOUVER IS ALREADY LOSING SO MANY VENUES. STOP SELLING EVERYTHING OFF TO DEVELOPERS AND CHURCHES. WE NEED PLACES FOR THE ARTS

Bad idea. The city needs this space for concerts and shows. Once its gone it never comes back.
