Save the Celery Fields in Sarasota, FL

I am vehemently against the plan for many reasons. Environmentally, noise pollution, inappropriate zoning near an upcoming residential area and tourist attraction, just to name the top 3 reasons. Please listen to your county citizens! Vote against this plan!

The acquisition of the celery fields by Sarasota County was intended for flood protection and wetland mitigation banking associated with the County's roadway projects. Dana has direct experience to back this statement as the former Director of Natural Sciences for Sarasota County during the initial planning for the former celery fields. acquisition. This is a terrible situation and should not even be considered in the area we have already worked so hard to protect. it is in neighborhoods that will definitely feel the impact of the noise, unsightly refuse and other pollution to what has been made a sanctuary. DON'T GO BACKWARDS!

The area around the celery fields should remain green space. We seem to be loosing all our green space to building. It needs to stop. The wildlife should have a clean environment to live.

NO to the recycling plant!

I am writing this email in response to a notification that I received from my Homeowners Association at Laurel Oak. I am not able to attend the meeting today, 6-01-2017 @ 5:00 PM because I am in Minnesota for the summer and I am vehemently opposed to what is being proposed! In July 2015, my husband and I purchased a home in Laurel Oak, anticipating that this would become our permanent home. There were a number of factors that brought us to Laurel Oak to live. We loved the area and we appreciated the fact that we would be in a city but also have the feeling of a more rural area. One that provided an area for wildlife to roam but definitely kept us separated from whatever existing/professional centers were already in existence. Allowing TST Recycling the additional acreage that will then need to be rezoned to build an “OPEN AIR CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL/YARD DEBRIS CRUSHING/PROCESSING CENTER IS WRONG. There has been many new homes built on Palmer Road and I feel that not only anything that is “OPEN AIR” would harm our environment and our air quality. A facility such as this should be placed where there are NO homes that house young families with children or couples who have entered their senior years. I am sure there are plenty of sites away from residential areas that TST Recycling can explore to build this plant. I am planning to become a full time resident within the next 6-8 months. I am opposed to the building of an industrial recycling plant next to the bird sanctuary at the Celery Fields.

Putting a noisy recycling plant next to a premiere bird sanctuary and major tourist attraction is a bad idea in so many ways. Do not let special interests prevail over common sense!

The Celery Fields are one of Sarasota's natural assets. It would be a mistake to jespordize this wonderful open space by allowing an industrial use as an abutter.

I strongly oppose this plant at this location.

In addition to impacting the life styles and home values of many residents in the area, this would adversely affect one of the most precious bird sanctuaries in all of Florida. One would have trouble imagining a less appropriate location for such a facility.

Haven't we already sold enough wetlands to Whole Foods etc. You're allowing our natural resources to be pillaged and it will come back to haunt you.

Please do not build a recycling facility next to a bird sanctuary. There must be alternate spot available for such a facility that will not disturb such a beautiful touch of nature. Thank you, Terry Murphy

PLEASE DO NOT PROCEED with putting a 16-acre recycling plant next to the Bird Sanctuary at the Celery Fields !!

Save our celery field and our neighborhood!!!

The recycling center must be stopped for the following reasons. 1. Noise! The facility will be permitted to CRUSH CONCRETE 6 days a week from 7 am to 5 pm. If you've never heard the machines that do this, they are loud! 2. Pollution! Get ready for 35-foot piles of heavy construction materials, yard waste and miscellaneous debris blowing into the air and leaching into our groundwater. There will also be towering smoke stacks. 3. Traffic! They estimate up to 100 trucks daily will be dropping off construction waste from around the county. Palmer Blvd. is NOT going to support this kind of heavy additional congestion without seriously degrading the quality of life for all living things around it. 4. Property values! People have invested heavily in their homes around this beautiful park and pay their fair share of property taxes. This is NOT the right place to build this facility!

County commissioners, please come to your senses and do the right thing. The birds and us humans need places like the Celery Fields to be protected.
