While it's not the oldest landmark in Brooklyn, it stands out as being one of the most iconic and recognizable. For 62 years it has towered over the rooftops on the corner of 3rd Ave and 6th St., a reminder of an era when clothing was made in the US and ads weren't digital flashing images popping up on a smartphone. UHaul, the owners of the building on which it has resided, are taking it down to build additional stories for storage units. This petition is a direct appeal to UHaul, and David Pollack (UHaul Project Manager) to make a commitment restore the Eagle Clothing Sign to it's rightful place, gracing the horizon over 6th St from the top of the building.

Updates

July 25, 2013

The silence from the project managers remains heavy despite the number of people who have come forward to speak up for this landmark. I am exhausted by the lack of direct response but I refuse to let this sign disappear into a pile of construction rubble without a fight.

SO SAD. my grandfather used to point that sign out to me when we were kids. don't destroy local history for more storage lockers.

That sign is basically part of the furniture in this neighborhood. Uhaul needs to chill and just put it back up.

Keep it up. Brooklyn is losing its soul fast enough as it is.
