Update 7/10/2017

We met with the planner and the councilperson's office at the dog park. We will have a combo small / timid and older dog area in the far triangle corner near Barrington and the parking lot. Parks and Rec will put up a fence and a separate double gate entry into the area. This should be done in October. (at the latest November.) The work being done to remodel and placement of the Veterans Memorial must be finished first before September for the VA Park. Thank you all for everything! Please call the councilperson's office early September to push this along and not delayed. Debbie Harris @ councilperson's office 310.575.8461 And Eric @ Barrington Parks and Rec 310.476.4866

Update 6/16/2017

Below is a email from the counclemembers office...We need to keep on this or be left behind..keep calling and emailing. Tell your friends to sign!

Hi Barry. I am sure we could arrange for a walk through. Eric or I can reach out to the planner and ask him to join us. In terms of the design of the dog park, we have to deliver this park completed to the VA by the end of September. If we try to change the design now with the contractor to add the small dog park area, it could possibly set us back far enough that we end up being out of compliance. As you can imagine, we do not want that to happen. Thus, Rec and Parks is not sure if the small dog park section will be included in the park when it opens in September, or shortly afterwards once we have complied with the VA's deadline. They are waiting to see if there is a sufficient window to redesign it now or add it later- so we have to wait a few weeks to learn more. Once we do we can share it with you and your community members.

In terms of the three year lease, at this time we have no guarantee that the lease will be extended past that time, or that the VA won't exercise its right to evict us prior to that time. Unfortunately, we just don't know what the future holds, other than the City would like to continue to operate a park at this location for years to come.

Debbie

We have heard from both the Brentwood Rec Center and the counclemembers office that there is enough room to separate the small dogs. BUT... The budget may (probably will) fall short and we will then have to raise funds to meet the difference. The small park will need fences, an entry gate and a dog drinking fountain. Stay tuned for a GoFundMe link once we have an amount. Large dog people, small dog people and Dog Walkers we need you. Please unite to make this happen!!!

Thank you to Eric our Park Director and Debbie at the counclemembers office.

Ineffective, and downright unfair, changes are being made to the Barrington Community Dog Park in the form of eliminating a dedicated and secure area for smaller dogs (30lbs and below). Yet, the incredibly large swath of land devoted to large dogs will remain intact. The simple solution is to fence off real estate within this sprawling area for the safety and benefit of smaller dogs. But for some unexplained and illogical reason that is not within the plans at the present time.

As members of the local community and loyal stewards of the park, this unnecessary change hurts numerous families and individuals as they will now have to travel outside the area to find adequate parks. All of this could be easily solved with a fencing plan that is within reason as part of the existing park renovation plan.

We urge that plans be changed for this simple, yet extremely important, area to be included.
