We live in the marina and enjoy seeing the blue herons every day. Shame on the developers and the City of Long Beach. Until now, I have been proud to say I live in Long Beach.

Preserving these trees goes beyond aesthetics, although that is also significant. Nests are sometimes difficult to spot and since one (or more) has been identified along this stretch of street, the trees should be preserved, because the herons will come back to the same tree year after year.

I am "Born and Raised in Long Beach" and palm trees are part of our heritage. When IT was founded every home was expected to plant a palm in their parkway. Marina Drive is one of the most beautiful streets to drive down. We are fortunate to have tall swaying trees next to our public boat and beach areas. The beautiful palms are not only a home for the Blue Heron's but they add grace and beauty to our marina.
To many palms have already been cut down! So many that ran down Westminster & 2nd St. by Leisure World & the ones that were sacrificed when the Colorado Lagoon redevelopment took place. When will this end? I thought we are suppose to plant trees not cut them down. Now is the time to make a stand. Please ask others to sign this petition.

Honestly, this is one of the most hurtful and wasteful propositions for (yet again) another materialistic and superficial plaza plan. I’m sure the designers “vision” will be just fine without harming Blue Heron’s homes and cutting down perfectly healthy trees. The design will survive..trust me. Do us, and the Herons (who deserve their God given homes) a favor and leave those trees alone. Thanks.

Please don't take these trees down. They have been here for so long and it is fascinating to watch the birds nest in them year after year. They are the epitome of the beach aesthetic.

It is ridiculous to cut down these healthy nesting palms, displace the heron, and bring in new trees. If the developer doesn't know how to work around them, he shouldn't take on the project.
