I have no problem with comics being provocative. If people don't like it, buy a different cover variant. Mistake to pull cover. Comics are no place for political correctness unless mediocrity is the goal. Comics are about imagination and fantasy. It ain't about "fun." If people want fun, go to Disneyland.

It's a part of her story, and I see nothing wrong with a variant cover paying homage to that event. It's a huge thing that happened to Barbara. The cover captures the emotions from that event very well. Comics aren't all rays of sunshine. Sometimes crap happens to characters. It's all a part of their story. While the circumstances are pretty sucky, it eventually made her into something greater. Sometimes you have to fall in order to grow.

This cover does the best job of communicating story and legacy and creating mood related to the interior story. It also speaks very eloquently and adequately to the nature of trauma and the relationship between victim and victimizer. All the girl power in the world isn't going to help a rape victim avoid an emotional breakdown or at the least a mounting terror if they are to become subjugated to their attacker again. Get over yourselves ladies...most of you have never been nor will you ever be discriminated against...and taking on the struggles of women who came before you because you've done nothing else and have made no more of a contribution to this world than simply existing and having a vagina is just a lazy shallow way of giving your place in the world any validity at all. The cover is well executed and poignant. Leave it be!

let the artist express themselves and don't punish them for fans who don't know what they're talking about

Absurdity! DO NOT back down because of a few misguided nut jobs. True collectors and fans now what is and isn't real, true or completely wrong. Bring this cover back to the hands of the loyal!

I know of the arguments against this cover but Just because a vocal minority is at odds with a cover because of their irrational and over sensitive nature, it should not quell free speech. The fact that the artist decided to pull this art is evidence of his cowardice and weak will.

I don't see anything wrong with this cover. It is just showing readers one of the things that happened to make the character to make them the person they are today. Barbara Gordon becoming Oracle and replacing Alfred as the support for Batman is one of the major plot points for the comic franchise. Just like Jason Todd becoming the Red Hood. It may seem like it does more harm than good, but it is part of the history. This happening to Batgirl is also one of the thing that causes Batman to almost or completely break his oath to never kill anyone. I think that reason in itself is enough to save this variant cover.

If DC's going to pull this cover, then they should stop reprinting my deeply misogynistic and exploitative comic "Identity Crisis," too!

Its a comic book. Over the years they have gotten more graphic. They have to to compete with movies and other entertainment.

It's a variant! Not a main cover! Let it be printed and let those who want it keep it! Those who don't, can ignore it and buy the actual cover!

The cover shows the history of the batgirl and joker story, there is more violence in the DC universe than this cover and that's why it's so loved.

Absolutely SHOCKING..DC!!!! You would rather bend to pressure from a bunch of overly-sensitive ninnies who don’t know much about comics and probably won’t read any, instead of being loyal to your much larger hardcore comic fans….WOW, that really makes sense…. FAIL. If you are going to censor and PC everything, be prepared to lose readers. Honestly, I don’t see what’s wrong with this cover. It is dark and a little bit disturbing, and pays homage to a great comic. It is not graphic and has no sexual undertones. To the ninnies I say this…Sort out your insecurities, IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT, DON’T BUY IT, but don’t stop other’s from purchasing it…FREEDOM!!!!
