This is a very slippery slope!! It would be very sad to see IWC go down the tube, but removing the things which make IWC better than a trade school or online education is, in my estimation, irresponsible.

I graduated in 1975 with a degree in theater and in English. I also obtained my secondary teaching license at that time. I have sadly watched as program after program has been cut. The theater program was dropped, foreign language and then smaller and smaller departments. With a lack of options students are then lost. Who will attend a school if more and more options are cut?

Why would students pay private school prices for classes they can purchase online or at a trade school. Having the Arts in your curriculum provides enrichment to their student experience. Your sports teams will not support enough interest in your campus without the human experience enjoyed through the arts. Also, I feel the loss of the very fine secondary education program at IWC will have an ill effect on the Mt.Pleasant & surrounding areas. I thoroughly enoyed the student teachers that came from IWC. They were part of the reason I chose IWC when looking at colleges. Music remains a large part of my life because I attended as many events held in the Chapel as I could and it encouraged me to community service through the community theatre. Please reconsider eliminating the arts and secondary education from IWC's curriculum. It is a mistake for the college and the surrounding community.

You've shot yourselves in the foot. We are trying to help apply a bandage for you. One cannot have a Liberal Arts college without Arts....

This sudden announcement is shocking and saddening. IIs there a master plan in all of this? If so, could President Titus please give us a clue. I want to understand the thinking. I am especially disturbed by cuts in the Music Department. This department is not only needed by students to be a liberal arts college, It is important to the humanity of Mt. Pleasant.

I know a lot you guys are busy touching up (or cramming!) for finals, but if you could just take a few seconds to sign this petition, I would really appreciate it. We gotta keep programs like these in schools!

The arts are not just an interest but a passion that can be transformed into careers in the future of the students who dedicate their time to studying and practicing. Please do not cut what is such a key and enriching part to so many lives!

Liberal Arts without Art, Music, etc. IWC did away with Theater years ago and it's never been brought back. So long to enriching minds.

My late husband and I are both graduates of IWC, he in '88 with a bachelor's in music education (a program on the chopping block), and I in psychology. Cutting music and art, communications, and secondary education will not fix your problems, not in the long run.

IWC is the oldest college west of the Mississippi. It has a long tradition of music the the arts; of training quality teachers who bring this valuable resource to students throughout southeast Iowa. The arts education programs are a vital part of IWC. Please reconsider.

Sad to see this happening. I know something needs to be done to save the college but I feel alumni and other supporters could have been notified to help raise money to keep these programs going. Something this serious shouldn't be left for discussions behind closed doors. Hoping for the best for IWC and all of its programs!
