The amp is the cornerstone of old Chautauqua. Renovate -- don't demolish. Update the backstage area. Install more comfortable seats. I'm not interested in a brand-spanking-new venue. And I agree with the signer who questioned the sanity of spending $30 million on a site that is used for nine weeks.

Fix it but don't demolish it so you can build a venue more suited to popular entertainment. If that kind of venue is needed, build it somewhere else.

we should look to Great Britain who work to save & preserve their architectural treasures. It's not about making it bigger and better but preserving the very heart & soul of the past so future generations can experience it's unique features. We have enough huge, cheap entertainment facilities...it will kill the spirit of Chautauqua!!

Don't dismiss history - it is incumbent on you to find a way to preserve it. Don't demolish so many people's wonderful & cherished memories. The is another way - you know that.

New is not always better. If upgrades are necessary for improved usable space, safety and technology, surely they can be addressed for less than 30 million dollars. New made to look old to replace the old which is sound and in keeping with the surroundings seems wasteful.
