In the 1970's, there was considerable discussion about potentially needing to tear down the Athenaeum, which had fallen in to serious disrepair. Fortunately, there were visionary leaders at the time who were committed to saving the historic treasure that we all enjoy today. The Amphitheater is an historical treasure of even greater importance. As a community, we should all come together to do the hard work necessary to restore and preserve this Chautauqua historical icon for the next generations.
