Once demolished, there are no do-overs....the historic building must be preserved for generations to come.

Alterations to the existing structure can readily be made to accommodate the desired improvements, and would be cheaper, and would preserve this most historic structure.

I would still have a big problem with this idea if the proposed "replica" preserved more of the orginal look. But it has not preserved to me what is essential... the open air aspect and the charm of hearing what is going on for several blocks all around! The Amp is the center of all that is Chautauqua... literally and figuratively! Plus, as a former property owner, does it not strike anyone else as profoudly ironic that we homeowners had to seek approval from the forces at be to do even a minor rennovation (i.e. switching out a front screen/ storm door!) while that same organization can willy-nilly decide to demolish the MAIN historical and cultural center of the Institution?!?!?!

I grew up attending performances at this ampitheatre. So many great memories. I cannot emphasize the importance of saving this space for future generations. Please do not take it down!

My parents have come to Chautauqua for over 20 years. My husband and I are enjoying our third visit in as many years and already feel a deep affection for the Amp. We love sitting in seats that cream with history! There must be a way to refurbish without destroying this beautiful structure!
refurbish for safety of everyone, but dpm
