I wanted to give everyone an update on this peition. I shared the petition with Miss Jones two weeks ago and she has not made any acknowledgement of it. I contacted the area superintendent and his response was that we continue to work with Miss Jones on this issue.
Since we are a year round school, it is difficult for me to reach out to parents in the other three tracks. I urge you to share your concerns with Miss Jones and continue to share this peition with other parents. I am only able to reach a small percentage of the school myself and I have to believe that of the 700+ students at our school, there are a lot more parents out there that would sign this petition than the current amount of signatures reflects.
We will not see a change unless we continue to voice our concerns to her.
Thanks for your support!

My daughter got so much out of this trip last year, even with the change due to weather. We were really excited for our son to have the same opportunity. I know it's a challenge to organize, but it is so appreciated.

Our son in grade 4 has been looking forward to this trip. I went on a similar trip to DC when I was a kid and was enthusiastic about him getting to go. Very disappointed in this news

My kids are in the 3rd and 4th grades - I was surprised to hear that the DC trip has been cancelled for future years. I would hope that the administration can either reinstate or provide visibility into the reasons for the cancellation.

My 2 fourth graders have been looking forward to this as a rite of passage since beginning in kindergarten at Carpenter. I support this trip and it's reinstatement.

This trip absolutely needs to be re-instated. To cancel a wonderful learning opportunity that kids will remember for years to come because it's too difficult to plan is absurd and unfair to the children. My daughters have been looking forward to this trip the whole time they have been at Carpenter. I will gladly help in whatever planning needs to be done to keep this as part of the curriculum.

I fully support the resumption of the 5th grade field trips to Washington, DC. These types of trips allow our children to make personal connections to the material they learn in school. There is more to it than just words on paper. Washington DC offers an unparalleled collection of information available regarding our rich history. This personal connection allows our children to understand how our great country developed and be better citizens.

I support a fifth grade field trip to Washington DC. I would offer any assistance (coordination, gathering money, chaperone, etc.) to the teachers and students to enable this opportunity. I is an educational experience that will likely last a lifetime.

I taught 5th grade at Carpenter when we first started this trip to D.C. and it was a wonderful educational experience for the 5th graders at Carpenter and closely aligned with the Social Studies curriculum. This trip provides an excellent opportunity, especially, for marginalized students who have never been provided with the opportunity to travel to D.C. and learn all about our country's rich, unique history. With the right amount of organization, planning, and support, this trip certainly does not have to create a burden on teachers, administrators, or parents. I would love for my son to have the opportunity to experience the trip to our country's capital next year when he is a fifth grader. I know that this is likely a top-down decision from Central Office, rather than our 5th grade teachers who I'm sure will all agree that this trip is a wonderful addition to the 5th grade field trip experiences and, more importantly, curriculum. Please reinstate this field trip!

This is an amazing and educational trip that these kids should be able to keep! I still remember my trip to DC when I was in elementary school!
