The city reversed their decision and The $3 Bar is allowed to stay open. My head is still spinning from this long fight but knowing we saved those jobs makes every difficult moment worth it. Stay alert because we need to remain a community that protects our own.

Final supporters
The City of Providence voted recently to permanently shut down The $3 Bar located at 242 Atwells Avenue in Providence in the Federal Hill district. This is mostly due to the neighboring businesses complaining that this bar attracted "the wrong clientele." The people that go to this bar are people that no longer want to be forced to pay ridiculous prices at places like Venda Bar, Sienna, and Opa. These establishments have not been able to handle what should have been friendly competition and an opportunity to diversify the offerings of our neighborhood. Instead, they have organized to negatively perpetrate the $3 Bar in all media outlets. The story that has not been shared is that Rhode Island having the highest unemployed rate in the nation has put 30 hard working people out of a job, and that while we sincerely regret any unapproved behavior that resulted in negative consequences, we have complied with all security laws that are require of any business across our state.
We need to get as many people to sign this petition to show the City of Providence that The $3 Bar is a wanted place by the residents of Rhode Island for a cheaper alternative to have a good night out. Venda Bar organized a petition to get The $3 Bar shut down, this is the only opportunity you have as a friend and customer of The $3 Bar to help us stay in business. Let's show them that the masses want a place to go to on Federal Hill that doesn't break their wallets. Your signatures will ensure an even plain field so that both sides of the story are included.

currently appealing the decision of the liquor license revocation and

The feedback I keep hearing from you proves that this neighborhood needs affordable spaces to breathe. It has been a long and draining week trying to get the city to acknowledge the actual people affected by these closures. I am tired but I am not walking away from this fight.

Seeing this kind of movement confirms that people see exactly what is happening to our spot on Federal Hill. The fight against those trying to price us out is grinding me down but seeing this support reminds me why we cannot back off now.

Why close a business that hire minority and is open all year around for local poor people NOT the others bar and restaurants that only does summer business. Beside that the majority of trouble makers are not from Providence. The city need job and business that's affortable for minority locals.
This appears to be a reaction to a murder that had nothing to do with the bar's business.
I don't drink but i will support them because i feel they shoudnt lose their jobs because the other bars don't want certain ethnic groups on federal hill.
There are $3 bars in other cities and they haven't had issues with their clientele. You cannot fault the business for a few bad apples that happened to be there one day....that same incident could have (and probably has) happened at any one of the neighboring businesses.
My husband and I went to the $3 bar one rainy aftaernoon. I admit, its nothing fancy, plastic cups, ate out of paper plates but we did meet a really nice lady at the bar. No violence, no hoopla. Just an enjoyable couple of hours one rainy afternoon watching the rain drops.
I feel this bar is being targeted, because of Atwells Ave. these types of incidents could happen anywhere.
Its disgusting what they are doing to the owner and staff of the $3 Dollar Bar. He runs a tight ship and is a hard working businessman in the City of Providence, but because the folks in the hill don't want to be ethnically segregated they'll do whatever they can to get his places closed down. The solution is simple, if you want to stop the violence, pass laws that make the punishment for these crimes that are happening at these nightclubs, bars and restaurants much, much more severe and start making examples of the law breakers. Each visit to the $3 Bar was a safe, professional experience. Hope they open again to prove this is a safe establishment once again. I've owned home for 8 years on the Hill, the city has reduced the police coverage drastically within the last 2 years. With the change of police security, it would make a huge difference. GV
